NAME: Tadayasu Souemon Sawaki

APPEARANCE: Tadayasu is a small, slight Japanese boy with inexplicably blond hair (possibly due to his mutation), short and parted in the middle. He has large and expressive brown eyes which, combined with his height, often make people think he's younger than he is. His clothing tends towards whatever's least conspicuous. He has no wish to stand out and be noticed.
PERSONALITY:
POWERS/ABILITIES: Tadayasu has the ability to perceive microbes with the naked eye. However they don't appear to him as they would under a microscope, but rather as cute, chibi versions of their actual selves. Furthermore they appear sentient and will actually communicate with him. He can talk back and ask them to do things, though their response will depend on his relationship to them. IE, the Oryzae he grew up with will be far more likely to respond to him than random microbes found in the dirt.
He also can 'sample' microbes directly by plucking them out of the air and placing them where he wants them to be, though that appears to be nothing more than him grabbing air like a crazy mime to others.
The downside of this ability is that in high microbe environments the sheer number of them can blind him, and their chatter can distract him.
Others can't normally share his vision, and thus actively using his power makes him appear like a schizophrenic to those who don't know him.
AU HISTORY: Tadayasu Souemon Sawaki was born in rural Japan, into a long line of brewers. The Sawaki brewery was famous for its production of gourmet miso, tofu and tempeh. His best friend growing up was Kei Yuuki, heir to the neighboring Yuuki sake brewery.
From an early age, Tadayasu claimed to be able to see little talking animals in the air. This was met with first amusement, then concern and finally discipline from parents and teachers and ridicule from his schoolmates. Kei was the only person to believe him, and so over the years he learned to hide his ability, even when he recognized its true nature. Mutants were not well known at the time, and even less likely to be accepted out in a small town, after all.
Expected to take over the family business as an adult, Tadayasu was referred to the Xavier institute in his senior year of high school by the canny Proffesor Itsuki Keizo, an old friend of the family. With the professor's help he managed to convince his parents that an overseas education was necessary in the modern marketplace. He had a secondary motive for leaving too: following a trip to the USA, Kei had mysteriously vanished. He felt it his duty to help find the only friend that had stuck up for him all those years. And so he packed his bags, making sure to bring enough of his family's miso to keep him company on the way over.
